The parish church of Sv. Rupert ranks at the peak of Slovene Gothic architecture as much from its location in the center of a borough as from its esthetic integrity and impressiveness. In the first church on this site, the Patriarch of Aquileia Ulrik II held a chapter conference in the frontier Slovene March or Dolenjska in 1163 that was attended by a great number of the most renowned representatives of the Church. The current church possibly originated after 1393 when the Counts of Celje acquired the patronage right to the parish. |

The Cistercian monastery in Stièna was founded in 1136. The premises of the old prelate office are occupied by the Slovene Religious Museum. The museum houses monastery and cultural-historical exhibitions, the Baraga and A¹iè memorial rooms, the Gabrijel Humek gallery, the Kozlevèar antiques collection, and exhibitions on sacral art, Slovene folk worship, the Ursuline sisters, and the Daughters of Christian Love. The museum is especially proud of the new permanent History of Christianity in Slovenia exhibition. |
