In the past, many flour mills and sawmills were built beside the travertine dams on the upper course of the Krka river, but today only a few remain operational. Among them, the mill at Prapreče near Žužemberk is interesting to visit, and the miller will happily describe the workings of the mill and offer you various types of flour. At Dvor, the remnants of the Auersperg ironworks that were still operating in the last century are visible beside the Krka River.

Žužemberk Castle is one of the most picturesque castles in Slovenia. Its history and beginnings reach back to the beginning of the 13th century, while its defense towers and two powerful bastions were built in the 16th century. From 1538 until World War II, the Auerspergs from Turjak owned the castle. During the war, the castle was bombed and almost totally destroyed. Renovations began in the 1960's, and since 1996 summer events and the annual Medieval Days have been held in the castle.
