Slovenia's longest disappearing river, the Temenica, runs through Mirna Peč. One of its two springs is called Zijalo and the other erupts during high water below a 35-meter-high cliff at the end of a blind valley near settlement of Vrhpeč. Here, sixty-three meters of a system of underground passages has been explored, and in the wall above the spring are two smaller karst caves, Ajdovska jama and Fantovska luknja. The course of the Temenica continues through exceptionally interesting karst valley system of the Mirna Peč valley to Goriška vas, where it disappears. The parish church of Sv. Kancijan was renovated in 1917, but an old Gothic presbytery from the 15th century was preserved as a side chapel. |

The once magnificent Soteska Manor on the left bank of the Krka was one of the most beautiful manors in Carniola. Its surroundings were enhanced by a Renaissance-style castle park with a garden pavilion called "Hudičev turn" ("Devil's Tower") in which rich murals by the master Almanach are still partially preserved. From 1733 until 1943 when it was burned down by the Partisans, it was owned by Counts of Auersperg. Beside the ruins of the manor, the remains of a sawmill, a steam engine, and a steam turbine are still visible today. The parish church of Sv. Erazem is also worth visiting. |
