The squared is defined by the characteristic city hall. Also worth visiting are the Chapterhouse and the Franciscan church, the Dolenjska Museum and the Jakčev dom Gallery, and a row of remarkable houses in the Breg quarter that are reflected in the Krka River. Novo mesto and its surrounding are distinguished by a variety of natural sites. The most renowned are the green Krka River, the mighty linden trees on Trška gora, and the vast forests of Gorjanci.

A special feature of the museum is its archeology exhibition with finds from the flourishing Novo mesto Hallstatt period when this was the territorial center of the Hallstatt princes. In the Jakčev dom Gallery, numerous depictions of Novo mesto and Dolenjska and other works by the painter Božidar Jakac are exhibited.
