Otočec Castle, which stands on an island in Krka River, is the only water castle in Slovenia and together with the castle park and the river banks forms one of the most beautiful sights in Slovenia. Its foundations reach back to the 13th century, but it was substantially rebuilt in the 16th and 18th centuries. It was first the home of the Otok knights, and when they died out at the end of the 14th century, their estates were passed to other noble families. In 1629, the castle was bought by Janez Sonce, the hero from the novel of the same name by Ivan Tavčar. |

Frescoes by Janez Ljubljanski are preserved in the pilgrimage church of Our Lady of Rosary from the mid 15th century on Stopno. The church was renovated in the early 18th century. It has an interesting outside altar built as an independent chapel. The side altars belong to the group of so-called "golden altars." A gilded wooden statue of Pilgrimage Mary from the 17th century stands in a wall niche. |
