The Kostanjevica Cave, less than a kilometer from the city, is a richly sintered karst cave, the largest in the Dolenjska karst. With an altitude difference of twenty meters and a temperature of 12°C, it is one of Slovenia's most easily accessible tourist caves. The cave has electric illumination and arranged trails, so special clothing and footwear is not required. Various beautiful sintered shapes are clearly visible, including the "rainbow," "Christ," the "saber," the "teddy bear," and "Santa claus." In the cave, you can also see horseshoe bats and other fascinating cave animals and plants. |

The Pleterje Carthusian monastery was founded in 1407, abolished in 1595, and restored in 1904. The aim of the Carthusian monks is to serve God and man through common prayer services, secluded meditation, study, and work. In Pleterje, you can visit the Gothic church (consecrated in 1420), the open-air museum of 19th-century folk architecture, and the multivision presentation of the life of the monks. You can also purchase their garden produce and other products, including the famous Pleterje pear brandy. |
