BELA KRAJINA

Vinji vrh - Izvir Krupe - Črnomelj - Pusti Gradec - Veliki Nerajc - Metlika - Drašiči

The River Kolpa, wines of Bela krajina, white national costumes, Easter eggs, rich dancing and narrative tradition and also folk costumes... A small land of untouched nature and culinary specialities, which is enriched by churches, stone houses, granaries, vineyard cottages, vineyards, cornracks, birches, numerous caves, sinkholes and hospitable native people of Bela Krajina.

After breakfast we will drive through Dolenjske toplice to Bela krajina. Our first stop is the spring of Krupa, which is a part of the regional park, protected as a natural heritage. Krupa once impelled a mill and a saw directly on the spring, which are waiting for renovation. Near, at Vinji vrh is the church of St. Trinity from 17th century, historical monument with rich Golden altar. Our next stop will be in Rožanec, where we will see the antique sanctuary of the Persian god Mithras. His immolation is presented on a stone relief and preserved in an exceptional natural environment. Next we drive through Črnomelj to the Regional Park Lahinja. In Pusti gradec we will take a look at the mill and saw "Venecijanka". In the village Veliki Nerajec (which won the European award for countryside development and village renewal in 2000) the locals will serve us with buckwheat roll and show more than 200 years old house. The Regional Park includes about 120 hectares of carefully cultivated fields, 80 hectares of forest, swamp and moist meadows. Here dwells the Potomac bird, plant Močvirska kukavica and other interesting species... It is possible to drive with a rack-wagon throuh the park. Next we drive to Adlešiči, where we will see the art of spinning, weaving and producing of special decorated Easter eggs, which are typical crafts of this region. Our next stop will be three famous pilgrim gothic churches of Tri fare in Rosalnice. In nearby Metlika we'll also visit the Belokranjski and Slovenian Firefighters Museum and view a film about Bela krajina. Optional is a visit of a wine cellar in Metlika or tasting wines in the neighbouring vineyard cottage in Dragšiči, entertained by a male quartet with Slovenian folk songs.

Baza 20 - Mirna Gora - Črnomelj - Stari trg ob Kolpi - Vinica - Žuniči

Bus drive via Dolenjske Toplice to Baza 20. In World War II, these were the headquarters of Slovenian political and military leadership and the partisan hospital Jelendol. The next stop will be at 1047 m high mountain Mirna gora. Just few steps below the summit there is the hut, chapel and remaining of St. Francis church. We will climb up on redecorated Church tower, from where we can see the beautiful spaciousness of Bela krajina, Gorjanci Hills and Croatian Gorski Kotar. Drive to Črnomelj, which has an interesting old town centre (Castle of Stonič, the church of St. Peter and St. Spirit). It is possible to see the museum collection and a part of Božidar Jakac collection in the castle. Afterwards we will drive to Stari trg na Kolpi, where we will be charmed by its picturesque centre and baroque church St. Josef. Drive to Vinica and further to the village Žuniči. In the village there are some nice traditional buildings for this part of Bela krajina. Our last stop will be in Šokčev dvor, where the information centre of Regional Park Kolpa is located. It is possible to variegate the program with a folklore performance.
