Farms and vineyards
| a traditional way of life |
One of the delights
of the region is the traditional farm building - particularly small
wooden barns, raised granaries, pig sties, multiple beehives and
hayracks. These are displayed with a traditional house (the birthplace
of author Josip Jurčič) at Muljava (see map E). On the wine routes
you will see old wine houses where farmers store wine and retreat
to sample it .
Today's farmed landscape
still looks very traditional with productive strip fields, meadow
pastures and vineyards, bordered by woodland. Whilst many people
now work in towns and in industry, there is a strong sense of continuity
in the countryside and of people who care for and enjoy their land.
