The people of Dolenjska and Bela krajina live easily with their past and their culture. You will see well kept museums with rich collections; galleries of 20th century art; poets, writers and theologians celebrated with a quiet pride; traditional crafts and music practised by young people.

The studio of internationally renowned sculptor, Sandi Leskovec in Mirna is occasionally open to visitors. Ask in Šentjernej for details of local pottery workshops and look in the markets for locally made baskets, handmade wooden toys and kitchenware. Bela krajina is well known for its painted eggs and for clothes of hand spun and woven white linen, hence the name, bela- white, krajina- landscape.
