Located at the transition between the
Alpine and the Mediterranean worlds, the Cerkno region offers
many possibilities for numerous shorter walks in nature on
marked footpaths or for full-day mountain hikes. The town
itself and its immediate surroundings have plenty of attractions
worth visiting that includes the Cerkljansko Museum, the Hotel
Cerkno with its ski center and swimming pool, monuments and
sites marking the World War II resistance movement, and the
birth houses of Dr. Franc Močnik and Archbishop Sedej.

A memorial museum was opened in 1990
in the birth house of France Bevk in Zakojca on the centennial
of the birth of Slovenia's most prolific writer and an important
patriot. The ethnological exhibition on the ground floor preserves
the original appearance of the writer's home, and the former
attic houses a literary history exhibition. The house is also
interesting because it illustrates the characteristic rural
architecture of the region at the threshold of the 20th century.
