The development of Idrija throughout
history was marked more than anything else by its mercury
mine. Many points of interest in the city are linked with
it: the Frančiškov mine shaft, a typical miner's house, and
the gigantic wooden water wheel called "Kamšt" that
pumped water from the underground galleries. Today, the oldest
part of the mine, the Antonijev rov mine shaft, which houses
a museum and the 18th-century Holy Trinity miners' chapel,
is open for visitors.

The small green village of Ledine lies
among soft curving meadows on a high plateau above the Idrijca
Valley. Here, an authentic Slovene rural life has been preserved
that modern visitors can enjoy. Ledine's farmers enjoy inviting
visitors to join them at tables laden with local delicacies
and demonstrating their tools and seasonal work in the fields.
If the guests are willing and handy, the local farmers happily
include them in their work, which is never lacking on a farm.
