At the meeting point of Slovenia's karst
region and the Dinaric Alps lies the softly undulating Bloke
plateau, which you can explore by car or, even better, by
bicycle in summer and cross-country skis in winter. Its meadows
offer abundant possibilities for peaceful relaxation, and
the curious can explore unique wildlife habitats in the meanders
of the Bloščica River and in the low moor beside it, ancient
ethnographical curiosities, the history of Bloke skiing (among
the earliest forms of skiing recorded in Europe), and the
legend of the folk hero Martin Krpan.

From Tabor na Hribu, there is a view
of all the villages of Loški Potok and the Retje uvala. The
picturesque churches of Sv. Lenart and Sv. Barbara stand in
Tabor, while in Retje, the Church of Sv. Florijan, an excellent
example of popular Baroque design that has been proclaimed
a cultural monument, is particularly worth visiting. Inside
the church are three Late Baroque altars with altar paintings
from the second half of the 18th century by Anton Postl.
