Turjak Castle was originally built by
Konrad von Auersperg in the 11th century and was demolished
and rebuilt numerous times. In the castle, there is a particularly
interesting (recently renovated) Protestant and later Catholic
chapel that has the character of a public church, and an ancient
linden tree grows exuberantly in front of the castle. Numerous
archery tournaments and, once a year, Medieval Days with a
tournament of knights and a medieval market are held at the
castle.

From the Church of Sv. Anton, which is
adorned by frescoes of Štefan Šubic from 1860, a wonderful
view opens of the fertile Dobrepolje valley. Beside the church
grows the largest linden grove in Slovenia, whose trees were
planted here five hundred years ago. In nearby Videm, several
sculptures by France and Tone Kralj stand in the open beside
the parish church of Sv. Križ. The Rašica River disappears
into a sinkhole beside Ponikve, which also boasts the Church
of Sv. Florijan with its remarkable Baroque altars from the
17th century.
