Kočevje, Šeško House
The town of Kočevje is bordered by a lake and
surrounded by expansive forests. The parish Church of St. Bartholomew
soars above cafes and shops on the central square, its rough-hewn
stone facade hiding a colourful early 20th century interior. Outside
Corpus Christi Church, a time-line introduces the milestones of
the history of the region of Kočevje. The history of the settlement
of the Kočevje Germans, a unique part of the region's history, is
fully explored in the Regional Museum in the restored Šeškov Dom.
The house is itself an important site as the first Assembly of Delegates
of the Slovene Nation met here in October 1943, a meeting recalled
in a series of drawings by Božidar Jakac. The collection is displayed
in the restored Assembly Hall, and presents a unique record of the
historic events.
