SCHEMATIC MAP

Following a visit to Žužemberk Castle we will descend to the bridge and cross the Krka River. This will be followed by a short rise. During our ride to Stavča vas you can view the world of the Suha krajina plains. We will turn onto the macadam road in Stavča vas towards Jami pri Dvoru, and turn left towards the wooden bridge that crosses the Krka River. The bridge provides a wonderful view of the Tuft thresholds. The Javornik Sawmill is in close proximity to the bridge, an example of the origins of the industrial turning-point between the two world wars. There is a horizontal cave  vent hole beyond the bridge, out of which the Šica stream cascades as a waterfall during highwater. We will continue across the bridge past the fish farm to the Dvor-Kočevje regional road and ride along the road to the remnants of the  Auersperg iron foundry. A short rise follows to Jama pri Dvoru where we will turn left towards Podgozd. The path will turn into macadam south of Podgozd. We will follow the footpath signposts here. After a short rise, the trail will level off. We will cycle along the slope of the “Suha krajina Triglav” - St. Peter which lies on the border of three municipalities - Dolenjske Toplice, Žužemberk and Kočevje. This will be followed by a descent to the Krka River and the sawmill in Soteska which we will pass along a short rise. In Soteska we can view the ruins  of the Soteska Castle . The Slovenian Technical Museum collection is located in the castle. The castle garden with its Rennaisance tower, the Devil’s Tower, and elm grove are located in close proximity of the castle.

At Soteska, we will turn onto the Novo mesto-Soteska-Dvor regional road. In Straža we will continue towards Prečna and at Novoles, turn right towards Zaloga and Cešča vas. At Češča vas we will turn right and ride among the houses along the agricultural path to Grobelj. Here we will again ride on an asphalt trail which runs along the freight railway to Cegelnica. We will turn right at the unsecured railway crossing in Cegelnica onto the macadam footpath which runs along the Krka River bend to the Župančič promenade in Novo mesto.
