C10 - ALONG THE TRAILS OF RESSEL AND KNOBLEHAR

Šentjernej - Pleterje - Kostanjevica - Zameško - Škocjan - Zagrad - Zbure - Klevevž - Šmarješke Toplice

Trail length: 46 km.

Low-lying trail from Šentjernej to Šmarješke Toplice. We recommend stops in Pleterje (Carthusia and Skansen), Kostanjevica on the Krka River (cave and gallery), Škocajan,  Zagrad Park and Klevevž.

SCHEMATIC MAP

At Šentjernej we will turn right towards Šmarje and the Pleterje Charterhouse. Here we can watch a multi-visual presentation and visit the outdoor museum. We will then return to the turn-off for Carthusia and turn right. We will ride along the wall to Drča and Šentjernje, then turn left  and ascend to Veliki Ban and Rzišče among the submontane vineyard hills. This will be followed by a descent towards the Božidar Jakac Gallery. We will ride to the Slovenian Venice - Kostanjevica on the Krka River. Following a visit to the old town centre, we will leave the island and head towards Malence. Here  we can view the Cvelbar oak tree. We will cycle along the southern slopes of the Krakovo Forest past Zameško, Hrvaški Brod and Cučja Mlaka to Dobrava, where we will turn right. We will then cross the Krka River and cycle through Dobuska vas to Škocjan. We can take a break in Škocjan and rest and then turn right towards the two-arch bridge and cross the Radulja River. We will cycle towards Zagrad. We will visit the Zagraški log ethnological park. The trip then continues through the village towards Klenovik. At the crossroads by the chapel, we will turn left towards Velike Poljane and ascend to the hill on which the Church of St. Thomas stands. We will then continue towards Zbure. Here we can rest and then continue right towards Šmarjeta. At the next curve, we will leave the Škocjan-Šmarjeta road and cycle up the hill towards Klevevž. The route then continues among the orchards to Slap past the Church of the Mother of God and then onwards to Šmarjeta. Here we will visit the parish church and the Karlovšek Memorial Room and then continue our ride to Šmarješke Toplice.
