Mokronog - Šentrupert - Mirna - Čatež - Knežja vas - Dobrnič - Žužemberk

Trail length: 54 km.
 

This difficult (length-wise) trail is an extraordinary scenic and interesting route presenting numerous cultural heritage objects: the Gothic church in Šentrupert, Vesela gora, the Mirna Castle, the church in Čatež, the birth house of the Slovenian missionary Baraga in Knežja vas and Žužemberk Castle.

SCHEMATIC MAP

After visiting Mokronog, we will get on the road leading towards Martinja vas. Following a gentle rise, we will arrive at the Church of St. Nicholas. We will continue past the chicken farms. We will then cross the Mirna River and rail road tracks, continuing towards Dolenje Jesenice. The prominent Popilar’s hayrack is located in the village We will continue onwards towards Globočica valley past the Kragljev Mill to Šentrupert and the nave wall around the Church of St. Rupert. We will ride past the church and primary school to the Škrljevo Castle. At the crossroads we will turn towards Vesela gora. The Chapel of the Grieving Mother of God and Stations of the Cross are located in close proximity. From Vesela gora, we will descend to Straža and cycle towards Mirna. We will turn right in front of the  stone bridge over the Mirna River whose construction was ordered by Maria Theresia. The Church of St. John the Baptist is situated on the right slope of the hill We will continue along the Mirna River to the Mirna Castle. Here we will turn left into the Cedilnica river valley. At Ševnica we will turn right towards Brezovica pri Mirni and Račje selo. Here we can take a rest. This will be followed by an ascent to Čatež, where we can visit the Church of St. Mihael. After the break, we can cycle up to nearby Zaplaz or descend to the Temenica valley. At Veliki Lok we will turn right towards Korenitka and Pluska. Here we will turn right at the bridge spanning the motorway to the Jurjev Homestead at Obcine. From here we will descend to Suha krajina. At Knežja vas we will turn off the road to Baraga’s birth house and then continue towards Dobrnič. Here we can rest and then continue our ride  past Dobrava towards Žužemberk.
