C6 - THROUGH THE COUNTRYSIDE OF THE LYNX AND BROWN BEAR

Banja Loka - Borovec - Kočevska reka - Gotenica - Grčarica - Loški Potok - Sodražica - Nova Štifta - Ribnica

Trail length: 66.7 km.

Difficult route  through several dense Kočevje forests to Loški Potok which has one of the most beautiful uvalas in Slovenia. We recommend a tour of the church in Nova Štifta,  churches, museum and Škrabec Homestead in Ribnica and a visit to the pottery craftsmen in Dolenja vas.

From Banja Loka we will turn left onto the Petrina - Kočevje regional road. After 500 metres we will turn left towards Drežni and Briga. We will ride along the asphalt road to Borovec and then turn right towards Kočevska Reka. Here we can view the Reški Lake, and then continue our trip towards Gotenica, where the archives of Slovenian cinematography are housed in the former shelters. We will turn right before the service station onto the macadam road leading to Grčarica. The trail affords a beautiful view of the Goteniška Valley. The trail turns into the forest shortly after and connects with the asphalt road, bringing us to Grčarica. We will turn left in Grčarica onto the forest road leading towards Glažuta and Loški Potok. After a little less than 3 kilometres we will come to the abyss near Konfin. We will continue along an macadam trail, following the signposts for Loški Potok. We will exit the forest and arrive in Glažuta, where an interesting wooden chapel is located. From here we will continue on the macadam road through the woods towards Travnik and Loški Potok. Here we can view the Medieval Church of St. Barbara and the Parish Church of St. Lenart. We can continue our trip from Loški Potok to the village Retje, where the most scenic view of the Retijske uvala is located or turn right towards Sodražica. In Sodražica we will turn right and ascend to Nova Štifta. Following a visit to the pilgrimage church, we will descend to Ribnica.
