SCHEMATIC MAP
Our trip will
begin in the town centre of Ribnica at the
Miklova House,
opposite the Tourist Information Centre. We will turn onto the street
Struška ulica and walk past the Inles, Riko and KVM plants along the
street and into the forest. At the first bend, the signpost will
direct us off the dusty path and onto a footpath which is at first
level and then gradually ascends to the Jamarski Dom (caver’s lodge)
at the Francetova Cave (30 min).
Here the path become steeper and we will soon cross the road and the
Selje farm and reach the Church of St. Anne on Mala gora within an
hour. This location affords a scenic view of the Ribnica and Kočevje
Valleys, Velika gora and Snežnik as well as the peaks of the Stojna
mountain and in the background, Gorski kotar and Klek. In the east, we
can see Slemen and past it, the Krim, Slivnica and Nanos mountains. It
is only a few steps to the mountain lodge where we can rest a bit.
The lodge is managed
by PD Ribnica and is open on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
From the lodge we will
head west to the highest peak of Mala gora, StenSv. Ane (964 m) on
which a triangular pyramid is situated. At the crossroads, it pays to
take several more steps to the lookout point where on sunny days we
can see the other half of Slovenia. We will return to the crossroads
and descend along the steep path to the saddle where we will turn on
the forest trail and walk to the road. We will walk 40 min upwards
along the road and then turn towards Poljane. At the crossroads, we
will turn left downwards to the right circular path which will bring
us back to the same location within a good hour. After a while, we
will see a signpost which will take us to the right onto a path and
almost straight through a forest and pastures to the road leading to
Grmada. We will pass the hamlets Žukova and Vrh and after a good two
hours arrive at the Grmada Tourist Lodge. Here we can have a rest (food,
beverages, scenic view).
The path then
takes us past pastures and through the village Velike Poljane, past
the church and along the road to the first bend, where we again turn
onto the old trail and arrive at Ortnek in an hour. We will cross the
main road and ascend the hill. We will walk along the road since the
Slemen area is hilly in some places with deep and steep valleys,
therefore the detour would be too demanding and time-consuming.
First we will arrive at the village Praproče, then Marišiča where we
can visit the church with its interesting frescoes. We will turn left
a bit further on and hike to the village Rigelj, where the
Oblak tourist farmis located.
Here we can take a rest and spend the night and view more sites.
