H14 - THROUGH THE MIRNA VALLEY

 

Mokronog - Šentrupert - Vesela gora - Mirna

Trail length:  18.7 km.
 

On this extraordinary beautiful and dynamic trail,  you will be able to admire the objects of sacral heritage on Žalostna gora, in Šentrupert, on Vesela gora, and stroll below the ŠkrljevoCastle to the rennovated Mirna Castle.

Most suitable time to visit: warm half of the year

SCHEMATIC MAP

We will set off from Mokronog past the ruins of the Mokronog Castle towards Žalostna gora. Following the visit, we will return to the crossroads and turn right on the macadam path until the quarry. Once we arrive at the asphalt road, we will turn left for Slepšek. In the village we will turn right onto a agricultural path for Puščava and cross the bridge spanning the Mirna River. We will turn left in Puščava onto another agricultural path which follows the Mirna and Bistrica Rivers. We will cross the railway tracks and ascent to Bistrica above Mokronog. Here we will witness the well-preserved Simončič double hayrack- In the village we will turn off and continue our trip among the fields to Breg and Šentrupert. Here we can take a rest and visit the Church of St. Rupertt. We will continue onwards towards Vesela gora where we can view the Stations of the Cross, Agricultural Museum and the Church of St. Francis, thereafter continuing to Ravnika. We can take a detour to the Škrljevo Castle or continue onwards towards Mirna. We will turn right at the village Sotla and descend via  Blatnik towards Mirna Castle. After the visit it is only a short distance to Mirna where we will rest and spend the night.
