H18 - ALONG STRAŠKA GORA TO SUHA KRAJINA

 

Novo mesto - Prečna - Straža - Veliki Lipovec - Sadinja vas - Žužemberk

Trail length: 27.5 km.

 

The trail will take us along hills and rises affording pretty views of the Krka river bringing us to Suha krajina. Along the route of former Roman roads, we will arrive to Žužemberk where we will view the castle with its Renaissance towers situated above the river renowned for its Tuft thresholds.

Most suitable time to visit: warm half of the year, possible slipping during rain (ascent to Srobotnik)

SCHEMATIC MAP

From Novo mesto we will set off on the Župančič promenade past Loka and Bršljin to Prečna. Here we can visit the Church of St. Anton of Padova, afterwards continuing along the road and crossing the Temenica River and turning right towards the Luknja adjunct. here we will take the path on the right and ascend among the Luknja and Nova gora vineyards from where a scenic outlook point of the Krka Valley is located. The trail soon descends to the Church of Our Lady of Assumption. We will continue onwards along Straška gora past the Church of St. Thomas. We will slowly ascend towards Srobotnik to Matijev počivalnik. Here we can continue our trip along the trail to the nearby Plague Monument or turn right onto the ridge of the steep slopes of Srobotnik. Once the slope levels off we will turn left towards the glider cliff. We will turn right at the fork towards Veliki prepad. When the path connects to the macadam path, we will turn left towards the hunting lodge and Veliki Lipovec. At the church behind the village, we can turn left onto the macadam path and hike to the interesting vineyard cottage shacks or continue our trip among the vineyards towards Srednji Lipovec. We will pass 7 chapels along the way. We can rest in Sadinja vas and then turn right towards Trebča vas. Here we will come to a macadam path which runs along the former route of the Roman road. The path between the fields will bring us to Naral’s Cross, where we will turn right towards Zafara and Žužemberk.
