SCHEMATIC MAP
The fort on Cvinger
near Dolenjske Toplice arose during the first millennium BC during the
late Iron Age, the latter which characterised Dolenjska as proven by the
the defence walls around settlements, earthern mounds and numerous iron
objects.
It is precisely the iron obtained by smelting the ore excavated in the
surroundings that connected the inhabitants of Cvinger at that time to
the peoples of the areas of Northern Italy, the Alps, Pannonian plains
and the Balkans. This led to Dolenjska’s first inclusion in European
prehistory.
