H19 - THROUGH THE KRKA RIVER VALLEY

 

TŽužemberk - Dvor - Jama pri Dvoru - Soteska - Dolenjske Toplice
 

Trail length: 16.9 km and a bit more.

The extremely pleasant trail runs from Žužemberk along the former Roman road, past the legacy of the Auersperg family: the former Dvor iron foundry, Soteska Manor and Dolenjske Toplice Health Resort.

Less favourable time to visit: winter (possibility of meeting up with bears)

SCHEMATIC MAP

We will set off from in front of the Žužemberk Castle right in the direction of Dvor. At the school, we can view the Museum of Famous People from Suha krajina, turn left and after 250 m turn right towards Zafara. From Spodnja Zafara we can ascend to the Churches of St. Mohor and Fortunat, and then step onto the former route of the Roman road. We will walk along the macadam path to Naral’s Cross. Here we will turn right onto the macadam path which leads to Trebče and Sadinja vas. Here we can rest and then descend to Dvor. At the crossroads we will turn right towards the Dvor iron foundry and local museum. We will cross the bridge spanning the Krka River and climb up the steps to Jama pri Dvoru. At the crossroads we will turn left towards Podgozd and then turn onto the macadam path - the old provincial road to Dolenjske Toplice. We will descend to the Krka riverbed and walk around the sawmill in Soteska. Here we can cross the bridge and view the Bistra Technical Museum Collection  ruins of the Soteska Castle and Devil’s Tower. We will continue our trip along the right bank of the Krka River to Podhosta, where we will turn left towards Meniška vas and Dolenjske Toplice.
