SCHEMATIC MAP
The route begins in
the village Rigelj where the Oblak tourist farm is located. Here we
can take a rest, spend the night and tour more sites.
We will set off to the
main road and through the villages Pusti Hrib, Gašpinovo and Hojče
after which we will arrive at the centre of Slemen, the village Sv.
Gregor. There is a small shop inn and church here. This is the
birthplace of Janez Evangelist Krek. All areas of Slemen are very
scenic and full of fruit trees, especially cherry trees and in autumn,
we can also collect chestnuts. This part of the hike takes 1 hour.
We will continue along
the road to Sodražica, (1 hour), cross the bridge and walk along the
road towards Loški Potok. At the knitting factory, we will turn right
and find a bike path between the houses which will take us through
meadows to the forest. The trail is level for a while and then ascends,
crossing a road and then continuing towards the peak. The trail
becomes increasingly steeper and runs past a small hut to the forest
road. Here we will take a few steps to the left descending and take a
right onto a steep path which will soon bring us to the slope of
Travna gora (1.30 hours ). We will continue along paths and bike
trails running through forests and pastures and arrive at the Kamni
Grič mountain lodge in a little less than an hour.
The mountain lodge is
managed by PD Loški potok and is open on the weekends. We will descend
through a meadow on the left side and at the edge of the clearing look
for the signposted trail which will bring us to the Travna gora
mountain lodge. We can eat and drink here and also spend the night.
We will continue along
the road to the crossroads and straight on along forest paths which
are also signposted and arrive at the pilgrimage church in Nova Štifa
within an hour. In addition to the prominent Baroque church, one
should also visit one of the oldest linden trees in Slovenia and
ascend to the little house and cool off in its shade.
We will double back
along the road a bit and turn left at the crossroads and descend to
the village Ravni dol where we can visit the Matic ethno house. We
will continue along the road and walk through the villages Jurjevica
in Sajevec and return back to Ribnica to our departure point. This
part of the route takes 2 hours.
The entire trail is
signposted with the characteristic yellow-green signs and runs along
the route of the Ribnica mountain trail which is marked with Knafel
markings. The Orneški Castle and Kadica sites are nearby the trail.
