H20 - ALONG THE KOČEVSKI ROG PLATEAU

 

Dolenjske Toplice - Cvinger - Rožek - Baza 20 - žaga Rog - Kren - Kočevje

Trail length: 37.6 km.

The route is extremely long and difficult, running almost entirely along sloped forests of Kočevje (and is therefore also suitable during summer). We recommend a visit to the Rožek learning trail and Base 20. Most suitable time to visit: warm half of the year.

 From Dolenjske Toplice we will turn towards the primary school and descend along the Cvinger archaeological trail to Sel pri Dolenjskih Toplicah. We will turn left at the village towards Radeščica, where we will cross the bridge and turn left towards Podturen. We will turn right at the road fork for Rog. We can visit the Rožek learning trail or continue onwards to Base 20. We will continue along a macadam road at the Lukov Lodge where the right branch into the forest to Based 20 is located and follow the signposts for Kočevje and Žaga Rog. We can view the post-war graves at the nearby crossroad with the road for Podstenica. After 2 kilometres we will arrive at Žaga Rog. We will continue onwards towards Kren and Željne, where we can visit the Željne caves. We will turn left at the Church of St. Valentine towards Šalka vas where we can rest, spend the night and visit the Kočevje Lake. From the lake we will continue our hike to Kočevje.
