H8 - BELA KRAJINA PARTISAN TRAILS

 

Črnomelj - Mirna gora - Semič
 
Trail length: 20.9 km.
 
The difficult route  will take us upwards to Mirna gora (1046m), affording a beautiful view of Bela krajina up to the Kvarner region. We will leave the wooded Mirna gora and descend to Semič between vineyards, beyond which the  viciferous Semiška gora and Smuk mountains can be seen.
Less suitable during the winter (possible meeting up with bears!)

Following a visit to the old town centre, we will head towards the railway station. At the traffic lights we will turn left towards Dolenjske Toplice. We will turn left onto the footpath for Mirna gora just before the railway bridge. We will cross the Črnomelj bypass using the overpass and turn into the forest. The Church of St. Sebastian is located nearby. The trip then continues through Talcji Vrh. From here we will ascend between the vineyards through Naklo and Rodine to Planina. At Planina we will follow the signposts for the forest learning trail. We will soon arrive at the former watering place and Zagaž Boulder. Following a half hour hike, we will arrive at the Mirna gora mountain lodge. After a rest, we will ascend to the peak of Mirna gora and the lookout tower which once belonged to the Church of St. Francis Xavier. Following a visit we will return to Planina where we will turn left to the Church of St. Elija. We will continue along the macadam path for about a half kilometre to the Alpine trail leading to Semič. The trail will connect to the madam path at “Kurbinih dragah” which runs along the hillside of Semiška gora. We will cross the Črnomelj-Dolenjske Toplice road and descend among the vineyards to Semič.
