H9 - THROUGH BEAUTIFUL AREAS OF BELA KRAJINA

 

Semič - Krupa - Gradac - Otok - Primostek - Rosalnice - Metlika
 

Trail length: 23.1 km.
 

From Semič, we will walk past the largest source of the Kolpa River in Bela krajina to Gradac and then to the Kolpa River and admire the three prominent pilgrimage churches of Tri fare and the old Metlika town centre with its museum and castle. There are no longer ascents along this route.

Most suitable time to visit: warm half of the year

Following a visit to the Semič town centre, the provincial museum collection and Church of St. Stephen, we will turn right towards Črnomelj. At the Church of St. Michael we will turn left onto the macadam path leading past the Chapel of the Holy Trinity  on Trata hill. We will continue onwards towards Krupa. We can view the karstic Malikovec Cave and Vodenica Cave along the way. The trail soon leaves the forest, bringing us to Vinji Vrh. From here we will descend to the Gradac-Semič road and turn left towards the village Krupa. We will then descend to the source of the Krupa River and continue along the river’s left bank. We will turn into the forest at Moverna vas and arrive shortly thereafter at the Jewish House. Here we can turn left and descend to one of the only working mills on the Krupa River or turn left and cross the footbridge spanning the Krupa River to Klošter. We will continue onwards to Gradac where we can view the remains of the Gradac Castle, and then continue onwards towards Podzemelj. We will walk beneath the foothills of Kučarje to Zemelj, where we will turn onto an agricultural path to the DC3 aircraft in Otok. We will then continue onwards to Primostek. Here we will turn onto the Črnomelj-Metlika cesta, cross the railway tracks and turn right into Križevska vas. We will walk along the southern part of Metlika and continue onwards to Rosalnice. here we can view the Three Parishes complex, and then return to Metlika.
